Dear Mr. Shersher:

Thank you for contacting me about performance rights. I share your views and appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts with you on this important issue.

Our country is in great need of addressing inequities in performance rights. Currently, the United States is the only developed country in the world that does not require privately-owned radio stations to compensate artists when the stations use an artist's music over the air and yet allow the broadcasters to generate revenue from that music. As a result, while songwriters and music producers rightly receive compensation when their song is broadcast on the radio, the artist who actually performs does not receive anything when their song is played.

To help fix this imbalance, I am again an original cosponsor of H.R. 848, the Performance Rights Act. If passed into law, this bill would require for the first time that air radio stations pay for the music they use on the air in much the same way that satellite radio, Internet radio, and cable radio channels do. The Performance Rights Act would take the first step towards achieving platform parity for music licensing.

Unfortunately, opponents of performance rights reform have begun an opposition campaign against the Performance Rights Act by falsely calling it a "performance tax" that would create great economic hardship for many radio stations as well as small businesses. Little could be further from the truth. The Performance Rights Act would merely require over-the-air stations to pay music artists for something they are now using for free. Furthermore, it is narrowly written so that it does not overburden small radio stations or adversely affect businesses like taverns, restaurants, and retail music stores. I look forward to continuing to build consensus to sign this bill into law.

New movie track CD

Ariel Records in Hollywood released a new movie score CD “Lucky Numbers”. Single CD includes the movie track to a movie “Lucky Numbers” written by composer Zinovy and an extra truck - a jewish song “Gotyniu” written for this movie in collaboration with Chicago’ lyricist Marsel Noah. The production team of the “Stolica” TV were shooting Zinovy’s day in life for the whole day today from his morning coffee. They’ve been with him at the recording studio, while he was painting at his studio, until evening barbeque with Shersher’s friends. The program titled “Here and now” will be aired on August 11 at 10:30 pm on “Stolitsa” (Capital) TV.

Maestro Shersher and Russian TV star Ksenia in TV program “Here hi is” on NTV plus TV station in Moscow. This 1,5 hr. program was aired life today at 5 pm. Zinovy performed 11 songs and answered Ksenia’s and TV viewer’s questions.

Today Z. Shersher performed for half an hour at the Moscow’s open stage to The Great Day of Russia holiday.

Zinovy Shersher became a "Voting member of The Recording Academy "Grammy". From now on his voice will be count for Grammy’s nominee and winners. Congratulations!

Zinovy Shersher finished one more exciting project, a music score to a movie “Lucky Number”. Besides the music truck he also recorded an instrumental piece “Romance” and a jewish song “Gotyniu” with Chicago’ lyricist Marsel Noah.

Shersher in Sochi

At the end of March, Zinovy Shersher was invited to be a judge in the International Youth competition â•˛Crystal Magnoliaâ•ˇ.
Festival took place in the Sanatorium :Zapoliarieâ•ˇ on the Black Sea.
During a press conference in Sochiâ•˙s Municipalitet Shersher said, „He is glad to be in Sochi after over 30 years Sochi has changed drastically, itâ•˙s a great choice for the Olympic Games of 2014.
During that same week Zinovy gave 2 interviews to Sochi and Krasnodar TV channels.
For the opening concert of the Festival he sang his song â•˛Merry Christmasâ•ˇ with a children‚s choir.
On his last day, March 30th, before the Gala Concert he gave a Master‚s Class on his success in the entertainment industry.

Art Exhibition in Moscow

On 4th of April Zinovy gave a concert and opened an art exhibition in Solzhenicinâ•˙s Center in Moscow. In 3 weeks thousand of people in Moscow will see his paintings and portraits in he new modern center.

- It was a great concert - G. Samojlova, a documentary movie director of Culture TV in Moscow said. 10 years ago I did a movie of Zinovy when he had his first big (after almost 20 years since he immigrated from Russia to US. I called it “Sound of colors” then. Public was waiting for his exhibition, othervise how could you explane that about 60 jornalists attended his opening press-conference in The Central House of Arts. Albout 30 great paintings was exhibited there. We never seen so many of his paintings in such a unique, his own style. His paintings were singing, playing, some of them were in happy tunes, others were sad and lyrical. But all of them were bold and speaking. As one of the greatcritic of CDX said on the opening reception, it’s unique theatre, Z.S. music theatre.
Few days later, during exhibition, he had his concert in the Concert Hall at the same building. And again, we all were amazed, but now by his songs and music...
Zinovy sang at Solzhenicin's Center many his well known songs from before, from his American albums, but he amazed everybody with new once from his latest albums and the once he just wrote with other great russian lyricists I. Reznik, L. Rubalskaya and young poet O. Adamovich. After the concert he was signing his new CD albums. Then everybody were enjoying his paintings exhibited around the hall and enjoying his company.
Overall it was a wonderful evening, the evening of joy, art and music.
